Jenny Fran Davis: My Novel’s Clique: Jenny Fran Davis’s Bookshelf for 'Dykette' (0 comment)
I read a wide range of literature, from “chick lit” to heady nonfiction, and when I love a book, I begin to think of it as a friend. It also inspires me in one way or another: its tone, its sensibility, its cadence, its structure, or its voice....

I greatly enjoyed reading ”The Consent Primer: Foundation for Everyday Life" by Seattle's Consent Academy. The Consent Academy is a group of dedicated educators and activists who provide quality consent training and consultations across North America. "Consent in our culture is evolving, expanding, and people need to learn about the complexities and nuance surrounding consent in today's world." (Surmick, 2019) The primary aspects of consent discussed are: Capacity, which is the ability to give / receive consent fully without any form of impairment; such as substances, physical / emotional exhaustion, or power dynamics. Informed consent means that everyone involved fully understands both the nature of the agreement, and the potential reality of the risks. Agreeing to lend someone your car does not mean that you are agreeing for them to drive in a demolition derby. It is very important to understand your own 'risk profile', as you might think that a risk is ok, but might not if you have to actually live with the consequences of that risk in an unknown future reality. So, be really specific and ask lots of questions! Agreement needs to be clearly stated with specific parameters. If both parties cannot fully agree to all aspects, permutations, and details; then do not make the agreement without further questions and details. Autonomy is your full right to what happened to you mind, body, and spirit… and for a specific duration of time.
