Could you describe your latest book, One Hundred Percent Me?
A little girl is used to hearing questions about her looks all the time. "Where are you from?" "What are you?" These questions are a constant reminder from others that she is different. As she embraces her identity and culture, she teaches others that she belongs, that the differences they notice are part of what make her unique, special, and herself....

It all started at a dinner party...

A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors — a twisty, rollercoaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives...

Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all — a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night, when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately lands on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.

Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they’ve kept for years.

What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family — a chilling tale of deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist.

This book is not a long read - 308 pages but line spacing is about 1.5, sentences are relatively short, and the writing style is simple - but it is certainly an engaging story and is one of those rare books that fully delivers on the back cover hype. The pace never flags; just as the implications of one revelation are settling, some new twist comes to light. At the same time, the story is fully developed, characters have depth and layers, and their predicaments and decisions feel genuine. It's over quick, but it's a ton of fun while it lasts.

THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR is like an Agatha Christie novel. That is, it has lots and lots of twists as one character after another is suspect, first this guy, then that guy, then that guy, then back to one of those guys, then on to another guy, etc. And more and more of the mystery is solved until the surprising reveal. Except THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR doesn't end the story there. A bit of what-comes-next follows and a not-so-surprising but, I think, funny end. It's not a bad book. But it's not so good that I'll be reading more of Shari Lapena. That's because, like the Agatha Christie novel's I've read, THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR is long on mystery but short on story. If you are an Agatha Christie fan, you may rate this higher than I do.

This book definitely took me on a ride. Marco and Anne leave their baby home alone while they go next door for a dinner party, and when they return late that night, the baby is gone. Suspicion flies and fingers get pointed. I was initially a little disappointed when the reader finds out who-dun-it pretty early on, but it turns out that things are much more complicated than they first seemed! The author does an excellent job of keeping the target moving as you try to figure out what the heck is going on. Another aspect I really enjoyed was how she beautifully changed through the different characters' point of views, often times abruptly but she manages to make it work and to not interrupt the flow of the story. The plot was great, the writing was great, overall I definitely recommend for a fun, quick read!
