Democracy in Southeast Asia is in crisis. The contributors to this volume argue that this is a crisis of democratic governance. They look into its causes, consequences, and prospects, comparing themes of democratic governance in Southeast Asia, such as political culture, civil society, political parties, and institutions and human rights.
About the Author
AUREL CROISSANT is Director of the Institute of Political Science at Ruprecht-Karls-University, Heidelberg, Germany. He has written extensively on East and Southeast Asia and published more than 150 books and articles in edited volumes and peer reviewed journals, including

Journal of East Asian Studies and
Contemporary Southeast Asia.
MARCO BÜNTE is Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Asian Studies, and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA) in Hamburg, Germany. He has written widely on Southeast Asian politics and published more than a dozen articles in refereed journals and edited volumes. His most recent book is Democratization in Post Suharto Indonesia (2009).
