Professor Richard D. Brown is currently Director of the University of Connecticut Humanities Institute and is a former elected member of the Advisory Council of the Society of Historians of the Early American Republic and the Council of the Institute of Early American History and Culture. He has written several books and articles, including Modernization: The Transformation of American Life, 1600-1865 and The Strength of a People: The Idea of an Informed Citizenry in America, 1650-1870.
