In every nation there is a need for a "scapegoat", a stranger who could blame all conceivable sins. This is the role of France in the first half of the XIX century, the Jesuits were playing. M.Lerua book - not the history of the Order of the Jesuits, and the study of public perceptions of this Order, reflected in innumerable pamphlets, poems, songs, pamphlets, vaudeville. Leroy shows how little in common have these perceptions and accusations from the real work of the Jesuits. The myth developed, fleshed, invaded politics and exerted considerable influence on it.
