Synopsis
This is an entirely new introductory volume which explores the history of the post-medieval European states, as well as the growth of a recognizable modern system of handling international relations and the forces which shaped those states. Professor Anderson provides a broad narrative of European politics and its impact on diplomacy including the Italian Wars (1494-1559), the French wars of Religion, the Reformation and Counter-Reformation, and the beginning of the Thirty Years War. He pays particular attention to France, Spain and England and the relations between them.
