His volume contains nearly the whole of the three small collections named Songs of Action, Songs of the Road, and The Guards came through. To these are added a number of new pieces: The Farewell, Now then, Smith To my Lady, A Reminiscence of Cricket, The Bugles of Canada, Christmas in Trouble, To Carlo, To Ronald Ross, Little Billy, Take Heart, Retrospect, and Comrades. There is also added a short poetical one-act play, The Journey.
