Kate Beaton creates fantastic adult comics, and it turns out she also makes brilliant picture books. I don't have a little sibling or a child, but I bought The Princess and the Pony for a family friend's kid just because I want to share this book with as many people as possible. It's heartwarming, it'll make you laugh, and the main character's name is Princess Pinecone, which is the most adorable princess name I've ever heard. If you're interested in a unique new twist on the timeless princess tale, this story is for you. Recommended By Junix S., Powells.com
Princess Pinecone wants nothing more than to ride gloriously into battle alongside her warrior kin, but when her birthday wish for a steed is granted, things don’t exactly turn out as she envisioned. Beaton, the author/illustrator of Hark! A Vagrant, scores again with a laugh-out-loud picture book about a lovable farting pony and the merits of embracing the unexpected. A delightful book about finding strength in unexpected places and finding your cuddly side. Recommended By Caroline M., Powells.com
