Synopses & Reviews
The way you spend your time, your energy, and your purchasing dollars are investments just as much as any brokerage account is, and they deserve the same kind of attention. The Resilient Investor shows you how to expand the concept of investing beyond stocks and bonds, wake up from dangerous old investing patterns, open your eyes to new opportunities, and build a better world. The book's centerpiece is the Resilient Investment Map, which first lays out three classes of assets: personal (your time), tangible (the things you own or have access to), and financial (traditional investment funds). Then it offers three different strategies for those assets. You can invest them in ways that strengthen yourself, your family, and your community; in ways that encourage the continued growth of a sustainable global economy; or in more visionary efforts that will help create a better future. You'll learn how to diversify your investment eggs into many more baskets than those offered by Wall Street. The goal is to make yourself more resilient: able to anticipate and prepare for disturbance, rebuild as necessary, and adapt and evolve when possible. For example, investing in food and energy self-sufficiency will help if the financial system takes another tumble. But, as the authors persuasively argue, the choices that ultimately make you the most resilient also enhance our communities, our economy, and the planet--paying true dividends to everyone.

Shuman, author of Local Dollars, Local Sense“To survive and thrive in an uncertain future means being resilient—in every sense of the word. That's easy to say, hard to do. The Resilient Investor shows us exactly how to do so with expansive vision, solid money advice, and practical wisdom, establishing beyond a doubt that resilient investors are, in the long run, the most successful investors.”—Patricia Aburdene, author of Conscious Money and Megatrends 2010“This unique original treatment of investing is holistic in the best sense of the word: it connects investing to the rest of your life, brings it down to earth, normalizes it, and offers valuable insights into how you can truly think anew about your money while deploying it mindfully in the service of personal and societal goals.”—Joe Keefe, President and CEO, Pax World Management LLC“The Resilient Investor shows how thoughtful investment, in all senses of the word, can both protect and buffer us from an unpredictable and worrisome future. But, this book does something even more important: it also shows us how the right investments can influence that future and ensure it is the one we want.”

The Resilient Investor teaches us how to prepare by considering every aspect of our lives in mapping our future scenarios.”—Carsten Henningsen, Chairman, Portfolio 21“What could be more important, in the world of ultra-fast trading, rogue computer algorithms and climate change, than weaning ourselves off Wall Street? We need to reinvent investing in the 21st century. The thinking that informs this book is a vital part of that urgent process.”—Woody Tasch, Founder and Chairman, Slow Money“This book is brilliant! By redefining and broadening what it means to invest, it helps chart a course toward making the most productive use of both your money and your time and live a more fulfilling life in alignment with your values.”—Jenny Kassan, CEO, Cutting Edge Capitalsan, and CEO, Cutting Edge Capital

Every generation thinks they're living in turbulent times, but there's considerable reason to believe the level of uncertainty now is greater than ever. Today people have to be ready for anything--they have to be resilient. And this book, by the leaders of the pioneering investment firm Natural Investing, proposes to increase our individual and collective resilience through a total rethinking of what personal investing means. Using their Resilient Investing Matrix you'll be able to see your assets in the widest possible terms--not only financial, but also personal (time, energy) and tangible (the things you own).
