This is the second in the series Sisters of the Porcelain Doll but can be read as a stand alone.
Four friends make a pact to stay in touch as they get married and go their ways. Heather places a ribbon inside a doll as her part of the vow. Heather, after the death of her mother and a quick marriage to Riley, sets out for Oregon by wagon in 1847.
This book shows the many hardships of early settlers and how faith sustained them. It showcases how friends care and support each other. There are two worthy heroes, each lending strength to Heather as she struggles with all life has to send her. My favorite part was the lumber camp and how the rough woodsmen protected Heather and Liza, the camp cooks. The author pens a dastardly villain, the kind you hope gets his just deserts.
If you are looking for a historical romance with danger along with the fun, look no farther.
*I received a complimentary ecopy of this book from the author. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
