This book about a couple caught in an avalanche in the French Pyrenees is one of those books that catches you from the first page. You know that something isn't right fairly soon since after their self rescue there are no other people around and yet the village is all working, at least for a while. They try to escape to another town but no matter what route they take they keep returning to the same place. Once the hallucinations begin and time begins to start to go faster, then you know something is up. The husband and wife are likable and believable and I got vested in what happens to them. I caught on to the ending before getting there, but not by too much. I really enjoyed this book, and the author evokes the place and the circumstances very well, I felt the cold and the strangeness of what was happening as if I were present. Not high lit, but very good story and well told. I was not aware of this British writer, but I will seek out more titles.
