As they approached the West Indies, the weather gradually became mild, and with it the temper and conduct of the captain. The first port they reached was St. John's in the Island of Antigua, at which they arrived on Christmas-day. N o sooner were they put ashore than the Doctor and his companions met Baxter, who was on his way to preach to a large congregation of black and coloured people.
