There are picture books that root into your heart and stay there. Even though you have forgotten the title or the author or what the illustrations looked like, you KNOW the sense of the story and find yourself looking for it, typing vaguely remembered plots into search engines. This is one of those stories and I am so thrilled that I finally found it again.
The Queen is dead and the King grieves, but the Queen has left a request to find the Bear and in that finding the King finds healing. This story is a STORY with a soul - dealing with big issues in a wonderfully traditional folktale tone. Death, grief, fantasy, youth and old age, finding a reason to live.... this is not a light tale, but its still lovely. Read it and feel your heart swell. Yes!!!
