October 2, 1900 — it's 28 years to the day that noted London eccentric, Phileas Fogg accepted and then won a bet that he could travel "Around the World in 80 Days." Now, at the dawn of the century, some old friends have gathered to celebrate Fogg's impetuous and lucrative gamble — and to propose a new wager of their own. The stakes: $1 million in a winner-takes-all competition. The objective: to see the most cities in North America — in just 7 days. Ticket to Ride is a cross-country train adventure game. Players collect train cards that enable them to claim railway routes connecting cities throughout North America. The longer the routes, the more points they earn. Additional points come to those who can fulfill their Destination Tickets by connecting two distant cities, and to the player who builds the longest continuous railway.

Contents:
• 1 Board map of North American train routes
• 240 Colored Train Cars
• 110 Train Car cards
• 30 Destination Tickets
• 5 Wooden Scoring Markers
• 1 Days of Wonder Online access number
• Rules booklet

Product info:
• Players: 2-5
• Ages: 8 and older
• Playing time: 30-60 minutes

There are essentially two board games that every serious gamer needs in their library: Settlers of Catan and Ticket To Ride. Those two games are the "new" replacements for games like Monopoly or Life. Ticket To Ride is just a great family game where each player tries to complete routes between cities by playing cards that match the colors of that particular route. This is the first edition of the game which features a map of America, and other versions of the game include maps of Europe, Asia, India, etc. The board for the game is pretty big so make sure you have room for it and all the pieces and cards. There are also expansions that include larger size cards with new routes (the cards that come with the boxed games are probably less than half the size of normal playing cards). The only real downside is that the game is a little spendy ($50 each for the full base games, less for maps you can use with the base train sets) but the quality of the components is worth it.

I love strategy games, and this is a favorite. Build your railroads along certain routes and earn extra points. Have the longest railroad and earn more points. Earn points with cards in your hands. This game is a family favorite and will be for years to come. Easy enough for a child to play but strategic enough for adults to get in a great competition to build their railroads -- and adults might even try to block others from completing their route! Fun for middle elementary through the oldest of adults! Great family game!

I love the game board, I kinda want to frame it and put it on my wall. Oh, and I love playing this game as well. I am very competitive (read combative) and find that I am competing against myself and the game, just as much as I'm competing with my friends. This game is definitely not over until it's over; even though you are keeping track of points as you go, a surprise win from behind is a common occurrence. And if you play games with folks who like to interfere with the well laid plans of others, go ahead and try; the mechanics of this game make it difficult to read the intentions of others and can lead to some hilarity. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
