Two lies add up to one great book from start to finish Mitchell “Mitch” Turner has been successfully on the run with his daughter for the last 11 years keeping her safe and staying under the radar. Mitch does not tell Julia that the reality of all this running was a result of his brother Dutch who is perfect on the outside with a monster living on the inside. Mitch witnessed his brother’s evil and knows what a psychopath he is and that the only pleasure Dutch receives in life is destroying anyone or anything that Mitch cares about. Once Julia was born Mitch knew that he could not let Dutch hurt her so running and hiding in the shadows, doing everything in his power to keep his daughter safe and away from his brother was his only goal in life. Julia was tired of hiding and when they settled through a set of coincidences in the town of Crossroads she bargained for time to make friends and go to school. Mitch knew the danger this settling could create but he had to give her a few months to be a kid and know the life other children lived. Working to make ends meet Mitch became a short order cook and there met Nessy Brown who was everything innocent and pure about life that had hardened him. She flirted enough to give him the message she was interested and Mitch knew that his answer should be no but he could not resist the temptation to know again the wonders of another’s touch. Just as things seemed to be going normal for Mitch and Julia a knock on the door changes everything and all the secrets come spilling out and the lies Mitch has been telling for so long are exposed. Accusations fly and every alphabet agency with a bad attitude and holding long unrelenting grudges want a piece of him. The local police think he murdered a reporter, the FBI think he is a serial killer and everyone in town is accusing him of horrific and terrifying crimes that Mitch swears he never committed. But being on the run for so long does not show innocence but guilt and his brother is now back in the picture and his accusation is the worst of all since he says Julia is his child and that Mitch kidnapped her. Mitch knows that he can’t keep Julia safe behind a prison cell so with luck and bad weather on his side he begins his escape and starts tracking down where Dutch took Julia and tries to figure out how to get her back – alive. With Nessy on his side and serving up a dose of reality and love he follows the clues that his brother is leaving knowing that time is not on his side and the end result will not be a happy trip to Disney World if he does not get to Julia immediately and free her from the devil’s grip. Wow what a ride this book is and one you do not want to get off of. Every time you have the situation figured out you are taken on another road that is even more exciting that the last one and the tenacity of Mitch and Nessy’s relationship is one for the ages because they have everything thrown at them and still never give up on one another.
