I'm a Marine Iraq vet and Andy Ngo has much more courage than I do and has done more to defend democracy and free speech than I ever will. And I salute Powell's for standing up for free speech and selling books that they may not agree with. Censorship does not lead to progress, it leads to tyranny so thank you for standing up for freedom. Both Andy & Powell's give me hope that all is not lost and we can still save our country - the "last, best hope on earth" as Lincoln so eloquently described it.

Thank you Mr. Ngo. You continue to be someone that we cherish. We used to love beautiful, charming Portland before fascists were allowed to run unchecked and free to destroy everything they touch - taking advantage of the good nature and open hearts of the many of us who called Portland home. I've seen enough to know these people are not of the good people of Portland but they certainly have taken advantage of the open door they were given. Time to stop it, they are not our friends or neighbors in any way when they harm our good neighbors and businesses who help our communities. Everyone from every city in the USA should by this book to understand what they may deploy in your city (or already have started).

This book is focused on antifa and not race so hate speech is a moot point and regardless of whether or not you agree with hate speech, it is constitutionally protected. “Hate speech in the United States cannot be directly regulated due to the basic, human right to free speech recognized in the American Constitution. The people giving this book five star reviews don’t really care about free speech, as they claim. They are all fascist sympathizers who want to prop up and make way for hate speech, to celebrate a fascist who has caused harm to many members of, and still poses a great threat to our community. Liberals and conservatives alike will always make a false equivalency between hate speech and free speech. But these two things are very different. If you allow former to fester it is bound to eradicate the latter. That is why we say no platforms for fascists. That is why hate speech is not (should not be) protected under the laws of free speech. And many of the days that peaceful protesters came out to voice their disgust with Powell’s for their fascist sympathizing they were met with Andy Ngo’s fascist goon counter-protesters who threatened violence against them. That in itself is an indication that Andy Ngo doesn’t care about free speech, but hate speech. Most likely would have never purchased this book if not for the fascists trying to ban it. Their protest of a book store reminds me of images of Nazi Germany in the 30's. Antifa spouts they are anti fascist but their actions speak entirely different truth. Good for you Andy, glad I could support your cause!

Came across this book from an news article about the protestors trying to ban it, after checking out Andys social media and interviews im super curious to read this book, im sure its a five star read, but giving 5 stars for now just to combat the fascist that have tries to stop your store selling it.

As much as I do not agree with Andy Ngo I felt compelled to purchase this book because I am appreciative of Powell’s for giving me the choice and for not caving to bullies. Good job, Antifa, for causing a person who would have never previously ever considered purchasing an Andy Ngo book to pay $31 just to stick it to you and throw out the book when it actually arrives at my home.

Had to order this book because the Nazis/Commies (like there's a difference) are trying to keep people from reading it. Sounds like the suckers have a lot of stuff to hide. I'd like it better if Powell's had told them to sod off instead of issuing a fairly embarassing apology for supporting the freedom of speech. You do what you must when the brownshirts are at your door, I reckon. But Powell's did have enough sand in their craws to keep selling the book online, and I think that in itself is worth honoring, hence my purchase here. I’ve never heard of Andy and could care less about antifa but when I was told by a rude dude in a wheelchair with his mouth full of profanity that I can’t read it I preordered a copy.

Any book that generates such animosity from fascists must be very informative, because they fear illumination above all else.

I just pre-ordered Unmasked from Powell's. I have not received it yet, so cannot review it. However, I can report that I purchased this explicitly in reaction to Antifa's actions regarding Powell's, and probably would not have bought it otherwise (Streisand Effect?). I also ordered Fahrenheit 451 at the same time, as it seemed relevant to current events.

I am looking forward to spending time with Andy Ngo’s thoughtful and well-researched work on Antifa. I have been following his reporting on the Portland riots and Antifa’s role in them with interest and alarm. When Mr Ngo was assaulted by Antifa thugs I knew that he was on track. I encourage anyone who’s willing to look beyond the official main stream media narrative to pick up this book.

I made this purchase in support of free speech, free press, and a courageous author. The harassment he and Powell's has received from AF and AF supporters is unacceptable, and has encouraged me to support Mr. Ngo through purchasing this book. No rating because I just pre-ordered the book and have not read it.

Once I heard people wanted to ban this book I had to buy it in the name of Free Speech and the support of Capitalism. I probably will not even read it. I cannot wait to donate it to my local public library so that thousands of others can enjoy it.

I can't rate a book that I haven't read, unlike others here. But I can say that I enthusiastically ordered this book from Powell's precisely because of the efforts of some self-appointed censors. I appreciate that Powell's is not in the same ideological wheelhouse as Ngo, which makes their determination to offer this book in spite of the mob action directed against them all the more admirable. If Powell's sticks by their word and delivers Ngo's book to me in February I'll transfer all of my purchasing (books, music) to Powell's.

Bought this for a Trumper friend of mine cause he heard it was "a very good book, with very many, many words. It might be the best book ever written some say, we're not sure yet but some people say it might be. Maybe not as good as the bible, but maybe as good as the new testament, people like to think." Anyways, after trying to read the many,many words, some of them with more than five letters in them, my friend got frustrated and said Antifa must of sabotaged his copy cause some of the pages had milkshake on them. That and the font was troublesome cause there were big and little letters. (My friend is used to reading and writing in crayon) So overall I have to say that Adams book Left me down.

I only learned about this book because Antifa protested Powell's. It's deeply troubling that Antifa wants to silence any opposition. I am highly against censorship. NO, I, like most others, have not read this book yet, but I will when I receive it. I am writing this review before receiving the book. I saw where Antifa is pressuring Powell’s Books to not sell this title. This shows there is something in the book Antifa does not want us to know. Plus we need to support Powell’s Books against such attempts at censorship.

Been following Andy on Twitter for the past year. He seems to be the only press left that Antifa has not scared away. I really look forward to reading his book. The First Amendment was put in place to protect the people from a government they feared, left on checked, would grow to become more important than the people it serves. The founding Fathers did not exclude hate speech from the First Amendment because they saw first had how their present day governments used it to suppress the governed. You may agree with the government now, right or wrong, but someday you will not and if you go down this path, when that day comes, your speech will be “the hate speech”. MrAndyNgo is an expert on Antifa. He knows their names. He knows their criminal records. He reports what no one else is brave enough to report. He won't tell you what you want to hear, he will tell you the facts. I pre-ordered this book and I look forward to reading it. I am proud of Powell's for not giving into the mob. I am disappointed in Powell's for not being more forceful in their Commitment to Free Speech post. They came down in the right place. That matters, and they deserve respect for it. But I expected more spirit from a place as legendary as Powell's. I suggest: This book would have slipped under our radar. However, it is the role of an independent bookstore to resist censorious impulses. That is what makes us independent. Because so many people wish this book to be canceled, we will be promoting it and selling it in-store as well as online. It is a testament to the power of social indoctrination, and perhaps violent intimidation, that Powell’s Books, in spite of the struggle session currently playing out on its doorstep, is compelled to attach a disclaimer to Andy Ngo’s book, as though somehow it is the book, and the information contained within, that is the problem. I decided to order this book because of the protest - Ngo's reporting (and others I've followed through Reddit) has been valuable in seeing more sides to the issues Portland is facing. Happy to support a small business committed to free speech. I wasn't going to buy this book but I felt compelled to buy it after Antifa threw a tantrum about it. I'm tired of watching spoiled children try to bully hard working small business owners into cowering to their bs agenda.

I love that you're selling this online, it would be better if you had it in your stores too. The more big tech sensors voices who speak the truth the more important printed truth becomes. Just pre-ordered this book to support Powell's commitment to free speech. I've been trying to get away from amazon anyway, I think I might turn to Powell's first in the future. There was maybe a 25% chance that I would have read this book, but I am not a fan of censors. I am buying this title almost entirely because of attempts to squash it.

I am buying this book from many states away to support Powell’s commitment to free speech. I urge the store to display the book in the store to fully demonstrate that commitment, even if that means barring the store windows to protect the store against the fascist mob. The idea that a book store should sell objects of free speech is something I can deeply resound with. But the idea that present day hate speech and fear mongering is being sold as non fiction is so disturbing I can’t begin to empathize with Powells. This title is filled with hate and lies, it states it has facts and backgrounds. But all it presents is baseless lies trumped up to sound like citizens of Portland are out for innocent blood. This smear on free speech is disgusting, and I won’t be in support of any institution that carries books used for hate and division. Hate speech is not supported under the first amendment but it is supported at Powells books.

Was not aware of Ngo's book but have seen some of the video of him being physically attacked in Portland. After seeing some video of the protest outside of Powells decided to purchase the book to support the free speech of the author and the bookseller. Their disclaimer about online sales only was slightly lame but at least it is available. It is my first purchase from them online although have visited the store numerous times in the past. There is more than one way to vote. Like another reviewer here I also dropped Amazon Prime. Made some changes to the applications I use on my phone and laptop. This country is becoming less recognizable by the day. When this place is ruined where is there to go?

Andy Ngo is a respected independent journalist. I look forward to reading his book and have pre-ordered from Powell's to show my support for free speech. To all of the well read people out there - aren't you curious about why others would be so desperate that you not read this book that they would lie in bogus reviews? Powell's has been intimidated into only offering this book online and I understand why. There is a very real threat that they may be targeted by an organized antifa mob. Progressive/liberals cannot have it both ways when it comes to censorship when people express ideas that you do not like. As a left leaning young person who is a resident of Portland, I support Powell’s books and their mission to preserve free speech. After seeing the destruction ANTIFA has created in our city this year, I am glad that at least someone is writing a book about it. I’m not a big fan of conservative news media or any other news outlets that are biased, the liberal ones as well, but I always try to read articles on both perspectives to get a better understanding of things and formulate my own opinions and ideas. I appreciate Andy Ngo's work on the streets! Antifa IS the threat-NOT Andy's reporting on it. I live in Seattle and can testify to the destruction that happened all summer so don't tell me that it's an "idea." I am disappointed you felt you had to make a statement against promoting it or having it in your store and I do see that as bowing to the mob. This book is written by a "freethinker" looking to bring about chaos in liberal portland. Andy NGO is part of a "psyop" with Ted Cruz in order to delegitimize democracy through Social Media tribalism. The same techniques Cruz learned by being a client of Cambridge Analytica, is being utilized through "independent journalists" like Andy Ngo. This book should be read as if you are trying to learn how to antagonize, with no real objectivity. One-sided mindset, very poor read.
