T. Greenwood is at her mesmerizing best with her novel Where I Lost Her. When Tess Waters is driving along a lonely road in Vermont, she is startled to see a small girl in the road. Before she can get to her, the girl runs off into the forest and Tess, despite trying her best, cannot find her. So starts a heart-pounding suspense tale that never lets up.
Despite a massive search done by the police, the girl is not found and Tess is faced with doubt from the police and the townsfolk, and then eventually called a liar. Complicating matters is the fact that Tess is already reeling from the loss of another young girl. Soon the townsfolk begin to wonder if Tess is crazy, and Greenwood's backstory for Tess would seem to lend credence to that claim.
Greenwood is the kind of writer that layers her characters in such a way, it's almost impossible not to fall in love with them. Her prose can wander everywhere from lyrical to spare, and her talent for storytelling is epic. She's the kind of author that compels you to seek out every single one of her books.
A fast-paced read with a great story, Where I Lost Her will keep you up late at night — don't miss it! Recommended By Dianah H., Powells.com
