This is a WONDERFUL book! I majored in biology, and have always been very interested in botany. I've grown quite a few houseplants successfully, but have no experience with cacti. My son Rob had a very healthy cactus with four "babies", which he had left at my parents' house, where he frequently visited on weekends. (His apartment did not have a sunnny enough place for it to grow.) He had told my mother not to touch it, because he knew she is a compulsive over-waterer!! Unfortunately, Rob passed away suddenly in April of this year, and my mother asked me if I would like to take his cactus home and care for it. I checked out THE WORLD OF CACTI from our local library. It has been an INVALUABLE help. Because of it, I was able to identify the genus of his cactus, which is Trichocereus. Also, I learned to withhold water during its dormant period, and how to judge how much water to give it during its active period. Thanks to your book, I think I have a good chance of keeping this plant alive and healthy, which would be a great tribute to my son's memory. From both a biologist's perspective, and that of an amateur plant grower, I think this book strikes the perfect balance between accurate scientific information and practical, understandable help. The photographic illustrations are just tremendous; so very beautiful and helpful. My sincerest thanks to the author, Danny Schuster, for writing and compiling this book
