Powell's Books, one of the world's largest bookstores, has been in business for over 45 years. We've grown to employ over 530 booklovers across five Portland-area stores, and our book inventory exceeds two million volumes. In spite of our substantial size and reach, we remain grounded by the company's core values, which have guided us through the ups and downs of the bookselling industry. Each and every employee's love of books drives us forward.

We have an especially intimate relationship with Portland - what other city in America can name a bookstore as its top attraction? Through Powells.com, we also reach readers around the world, people who at one time or another have visited Powell's Books or who hope to one day. We are devoted to being a strong partner of publishers, authors, and other bookstores in the bookselling community. We host over 500 author events a year and develop original author content to feature on our blog, including interviews and essays. Our leadership team, led by third-generation owner and President Emily Powell, continually reinvests in the company to ensure long-term success, planning for the next 45 years of operations to be as successful as the past.
