We now offer free store pickup at Powell's City of Books, Powell's at Cedar Hills Crossing, and Powell's Books on Hawthorne! Here's how to take advantage of this service:
1. Shop on Powells.com.
Browse our website and add items to your shopping cart as you would for a regular online order.
Tip: To get your items faster, select products that show in-store availability.
2. Choose Store Pickup.
At checkout after you have logged in, select Store Pickup and the pickup location on the Shipping Details page. Pickups occur inside the store during open hours.
3. Place your order and wait for us to notify you.
We will email you when your order is ready for pickup.
4. Come get your books!
Once your order is ready, stop by our store:
Downtown: inside the 11th Ave. and Couch St. entrance
Cedar Hills Crossing: behind the cash registers, inside the front entrance at 3415 SW Cedar Hills Blvd. between Ulta and Tuesday Morning
Hawthorne: inside the main entrance at 3723 SE Hawthorne Blvd.

What are you doing to ensure the safety of customers and employees?
Regarding safety in our workplace, we continue to follow the latest guidelines from health authorities. We provide ample hand-washing facilities and hand sanitizer, gloves, and masks for all employees, and we train all employees on best practices related to protective gear, supplies, and general hygiene. Frequently touched surfaces are regularly cleaned and disinfected. We have also adjusted our policies to ensure employees stay home if they are sick or have virus-related concerns.
Can I choose items that are not available at the store where I'm picking up my order?
Yes. Items in stock at other store locations can be transferred and held for you. This generally takes 2-4 days. Please be aware that items sourcing from our partner warehouses can take up to 2 weeks to arrive and may be delayed further due to shipping carrier disruptions.
What if I'm unable to pick up my order?
If you are unable to pick up your order after eight days from the time we notified you that your order was ready, we will ship it to the address on file (shipping rates apply). If the address on file isn’t local to Oregon or Washington, or if we are unable to process the shipping charge, we will refund the order and restock the product to our inventory.
Can I place a store pickup order by phone?
Not at this time. An email address and mobile phone are necessary to receive notifications and complete your order.
Can I make changes to my order after I have placed it online?
You may cancel your order if it is still being processed by logging into your Powell's account and going to Status of Current Orders.
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate other order changes, such as adding items, once your order has been placed.
Can I make changes to my order when I’m picking it up?
We're sorry, but to ensure a speedy pickup process, we cannot make order additions or substitutions at the time of pickup.
