Cody McFadyen's fourth novel pushes FBI agent Smokey Barrett and her team into the dark game of a perverse serial killer who kidnaps and keeps his victims for years before disposing of them. McFadyen's characters are complex and his plot is sinister and driven. Barrett is not the usual drop-dead gorgeous female hero, but rather a woman scarred both inside and out who struggles daily with the nature of evil. Abandoned twisted, turned, and kept me on the edge until the end. The story works as a stand-alone, but treat yourself and read the series in order, starting with Shadow Man.
