Graziano, a young New Hampshire poet, brings us his first book of short stories. His publisher, Green Bean Press, liked it so much they decided to do what small presses usually don't--they released it as a hardcover book, complete with a beautiful dust jacket and design. The stories within walk the same sort of territory as Richard Russo, Denis Johnson, or Bukowski. Of the ten stories, standouts include the odd story of an air guitar fiend (Padlocked), a brutal piece about phone taunting (The Answering Machine), and the tale of a young couple that meet at a laundromat (Nor' easter). Graziano's stories of disenfranchised Americans are a great addition to the small press scene.
