I'm amazed that I read Having Faith at all, given that I didn't like the cover or the title. It is a testament to the book's greatness that my prejudices fell by the wayside as soon as I started reading. Sandra Steingraber, ecologist and mother, effortlessly weaves memoir, science, and history with elegance and clarity. Fascinating details about the workings of the body and harrowing stories of preventable epidemics mingle with her personal experiences of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
