Susan Brackney knows about bees. Beekeeping is literally in her genes: in the 1930s, her great-grandparents, like many families in rural Indiana, kept beehives next to their large gardens and fruit orchards. In this charmingly illustrated little book, Brackney mixes bee facts with personal anecdotes about how she became a beekeeper, fought the city code, and charmed her grumpy neighbor by giving him presents of delicious honey. This hodgepodge of a bee book also includes recipes for baklava, beeswax candles, and honey energy bars. Plan Bee is more of a love letter to bees than a scientific study of them, but isn't that just what we gardeners and bee lovers want?
