Top Ten Reasons People Don't Try Gardening (Part 2)

by Mel Bartholomew, February 16, 2010 9:00 AM
(Click here for the first post.)

I wrote the first Square Foot Gardening book for people who were afraid to start a garden or thought they didn't have time to tend a garden.

Now I've written this cookook for people who don't realize how good things taste when they are fresh from their garden. Here are two more of the reasons why people think they can't garden.

Reason 3: "I've never been successful at gardening, or I've never gardened before."

Square Foot Gardening is so simplified and easy to understand that even fourth-graders in many schools are learning it in their science and home economics classes. You can learn all the basics of SFG in about one hour. Experts will need about 2 weeks! The basics of SFG are that if you start with perfect soil, plants are at their right spacing, there are no weeds, and just the right amount of water, you will have a perfect garden. It's that simple, and besides, there is no work.

Reason 4. "I don't have time."

Gardening is so much easier in a smaller space, it requires much less time. And, the time spent is positive, peaceful, and relaxing. The very thing that people who "don't have time" really need is to unwind, reflect, and enjoy the outdoors. Without all the work of weeding and digging, most of your time will be spent in nurturing and harvesting your garden.
