What an eye opener about the treatment of people with leprosy! It will make you want to know more of the facts this fictional story is based in. And it gives great treatment to the needs of those suffering from the physical and social stigma associated with disease.

Don't let the subject matter, leprosy, stop you from this great read. You follow Rachel through her life, beginning with being sent to Kalaupapa, a leper colony, as a child. Regardless of the isolation, the pain and the stigma of leprosy in the late 1800's, Rachel manages to have an uplifting life. You will cheer for Rachel and remember her positive outlook long after you have finished the last page.
