An Army at Dawn is a superbly written book on the Northern African campaign of World War II. This is a wonderful history of some of the first campaigns of the war; Atkinson maintains a balanced focus on everyone involved, from the generals down to the privates. With great insight, he details the difficulties of entering a war with an inexperienced army and the necessary components of survival and success.
