Houston. Today, as I write this, is Martin Luther King Day, though you will read this the following day. Today is the official release date of
The Ticking Is the Bomb. I'm reading at Brazos tonight (by the time you read this I will have already read at Brazos, such is the way of writing in advance of the actual moment — perhaps by tomorrow the day will line up with the moment). Yesterday, the Houston marathon ran by my bedroom window at dawn; the wheelchair/chariots sailed past first, always a thrill. This morning I'm waiting for someone to come and jump-start my car, which I left here for months and forgot to ask anyone to start it once in a while. Tomorrow I begin the semester teaching at the University of Houston, then the next day I fly to Boston, the second leg of the tour (like an octopus). What is there to say about Haiti? My pal Ben Terrall has been visiting there, working there, writing about it, for years. He says these are good links for info:
www.HaitiJustice.org and
haitisolidarity.net.
