This book feels like the perfect British cozy (despite the author being an American). It takes place in a small town, of which the majority of the population shares the same surname (Evans). Evans the Constable, aka Evans the Law, is our main character. There is also Evans the Post (mailman), Evans the Meat (butcher), and so on, named as such so no one gets confused about whom they're referring to when they gossip. Add to that two churches right across the street from one another. The one used by most of the town folk has a back door in direct line with the back door of the local pub, so everyone can leave the church on Sunday and head straight to the pub while bypassing the front doors. I love this quaint town and its quirky inhabitants!
