Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

The Sound Of Music: 40th Anniversary Edition (Widecreen)
by
Julie Andrews

This is a wonderful product not just because it is a wonderful movie. It has the best bonus features that I have seen in a DVD. The Documentaries are First-Rate and you can get a better understanding from those involved in making the movie some of the problems that they encountered while filming on location in Salzburg, Austria. I think this is the best version of the movie that I have seen since it first came out on a VHS Tape and when it was First shown on TV back in 1976. If you are a Julie Andrews fan and love films with music than this a must buy DVD. You can watch it 100 times or more and it never gets old. There is always something new to discover in the movie.

The Sound of Their Music: The Story of Rodgers & Hammerstein
by
Frederick Nolan

I have the 1978 version of this book. I did not know that there is a revised version of the book and I intend to look into it. I find this book to be very informative about two men who wrote wonderful Broadway Musicals Together. They have a legacy that will never go away. As new generations of children are born they will get to see the brillance of these men who are no longer with us. Yet their words and music are forever captured on the big screen. You can find comfort in the songs that they wrote together and you can learn from the songs as well. I highly recommend this book to all of the Movie Musical lovers of the world.

One More Time: A Memoir
by
Burnett, Carol
mglaser4260056
, September 09, 2006
This is a terrific book and I have read it several times and I can see why Carol's late daughter Carrie Hamilton wanted to make a Play out of the First Half of the book. The book is honest and straightforward. it is also touching, funny, sad, and just full of mixed emotions. It makes you believe that if you have a dream then you have to follow it no matter how many obstacles get in the way such as money or lack thereof. It is being in the right place at the right time. I think that Carol was meant not only to be an actress in both comedy and dramatic roles but also to become an author in her own right. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a Carol Burnett Fan and would like to get to know her from her own written words.

Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles
by
Julie Andrews Edwards

I think that this a wonderful book and I read it over 20 years ago. It lets your imagination wander to new and exotic places. I hear that it might be turned into a movie by the Disney Co. and I think it would be interesting to see how it goes from page to screen. I think that the author knows children very well and how to get their minds open to new things.

Beautiful Mind A Biography of John Forbes Nash Jr Winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics 1994

I did not read the book but I did see the movie that was directed by Ron Howard. I thought the movie did an excellent job of portraying this man's problems. I can see why Ron Howard wanted to make a movie like this because it makes people think about things that might be hard to understand. It really deserved the awards that it got at the Academy Awards several years ago.

Atonement

Ian McEwan

I have to agree with the other reviewers this book seems like one of those that would be hard to put down once you started reading it. I am more into Non-Fiction than Fiction but for people who like this kind of book I think they would get their money's worth.

I think that this a very good book. I reccommend it to all of Donny's fans. You will find out things about Donny that might upset you a little bit but as you go through the book you will find yourself rooting for him as you go on his Life's Journey. I have read this book over and over again because it touches my heart.

If I Knew It Was Going to Be This Much Fun, I Would Have Become a Grandparent First
by
Willard Scott

I think the title is wonderful and I am sure many people agree with it. I think that the book looks like a lot of fun to read together. The Grandparent and the Grandchild should read it together.
