At Home A Short History of Private Life
by
Bill Bryson
Abbytron
, September 20, 2011
Loosely based around the rooms of Bryson's historic house, this book ranges entertainingly -- and informatively -- over such topics as the Crystal Palace in Victorian England, the secret lives of servants, what men in the 18th century wore under their wigs, and why Darwin was really, really sick of molluscs.

Let the Right One In
by
John Ajvide Lindqvist

, January 01, 2011
Finally, a vampire novel to rival Stoker's Dracula in terms of its complexity and interpretive richness. This is a vampire romance, but not like you've ever seen before; it's by turns sweet and horrifying, and you're never sure who the real monsters are. Lindqvist's writing is pure brilliance. Easily the best novel I read all year.
