11 22 63

I know, I know... this is a Stephen King novel and it can't be considered as good as all of those 'literary novels'. Wrong. 11/22/63 is King's best novel in years and ranks up there with his very best. It is an instant classic. The title and cover tells all that you need to know about this book: a man discovers a portal that brings him back in time to 1958. He decides to change the course of history by stopping John F. Kennedy's assassination. The great thing about this book is the narrative. Sure, it's rather on the thick side (over 700 pages) but the story flows so well and the characters are so incredibly developped that the story just seems to fly by. Highly recommended.

Flashback
by
Dan Simmons

Dan Simmons is a master at blending different genre into one original narrative. This time, he takes one of his previous novellas and gives it an entire new life with Flashback. In this story, Simmons offers his view on a dystopian future on the brink of erradication. Although his view of the future can seem pessimistic, it is a fully fleshed out and highly plausible idea. Through a process, humans can relive the best moments of their lives. But this process becomes highly addictive to humans and because of it, the United States is collapsing. With 87% of the population addicted to Flashback, nothing else seems to matter, not even survival. A gripping narrative, full of surprises, makes this yet another Simmons success. Highly recommended.

Terror
by
Dan Simmons

Dan Simmons is a great writer who's able to aptly write in any genre. He's written great science fiction, great mysteries, some comic novels and, especially, great horror. The Terror is a horror/adventure book that will leave you feeling breathless. At 750 pages, you'd think the book would at time feel long. But its constant action, great characters and great moments of terror (no pun intended) makes this one the season's must-read. I just wish Simmons will finally get the recognition he deserves with this extraoridinary book.
