Adventures Among Ants: A Global Safari with a Cast of Trillions
by
Mark W. Moffett

I loved this book! Not only did it have the most amazing photographs of ants, it was exceptionally well-written. Insects are not usually a subject that I chose to read about, but I truly could not put this book down. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

The Warmth Of Other Suns: The Epic Story Of America's Great Migration
by
Isabel Wilkerson
Susan Beecher
, January 01, 2012
While I have read many books about the difficulties African-Americans faced in the years since the Civil War, this book truly brought home how hard it was for African-Americans from different times and different backgrounds to get by and succeed in this country. The author brings the people she follows to life in this wonderful book.

Tiger A True Story of Vengeance
by
John Vaillant
Susan Beecher
, January 02, 2011
This book is completely fascinating. It is the story of a tiger's revenge attack on a man who injured him in far eastern Russia, but it is so much more. The author weaves in the stories of the local people, both the indigenous and immigrant Russians and their relationships with the tigers, which deteriorated after perestroika destroyed the local economy. The author brings to life the local people and the team of men charged with monitoring the tigers. He does the same with the tigers. This book gets my highest recommendation.

Not only was this book exceptionally well-written, the subject, Dr. Paul Farmer, is such an inspiring person. I vote this my favorite book of the decade.
