I love everything by Wm. Trevor and this was the first of his novels I read. Less about the horror of one man's actions than about his relationship with his victim, the trauma that created him and the sadness that brought her into his life. Beautiful.

My Happy Life

I have read this book countless times and purchased 9 copies. They never make it back when I lend them out. Millet's lanquage and cadence in this novel are like poetry to me. Dark and sad and hopeful... I will read My Happy Life many more times over the years, I'm sure.
