Riders In The Sky Millennium Book 4
by
Charles Grant
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
Famine, Plague, Death, and War are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Their arrival spells the beginning of the end for humanity. All over the planet, millions of people die from a smallpox mutilation. Yet most of the dwindling survivors remain ignorant that the pandemic spread of the bacteria, crop failure, and increasing violence is caused by the start of the Apocalypse. A few exceptions exist amidst the mass blindness. These few individuals continue to battle Famine, Plague, Death, and War. Casey Chisholm has barely survived a fight with one of the horsemen. Afraid, he hides rather than using his powers to confront the enemy. However, War leads his peers on a deadly march through mankind that forces Casey to take charge of the counterattacking soldiers that will determine the future fate of earth. Following the stupendous SYMPHONY, the incredible IN THE MOOD, and the choice CHARITY, the rousing RIDERS IN THE SKY ends the enthralling "Millennium Quartet War" series. Taken separately, each chilling novel stands alone. However, comprising a set, the terrorizing tales make for an unbelievable collection that is the definitive Apocalypse/Millennium novel of the era. The renowned supernatural writer Charles Grant has written a classic series that paints a plausible but stormy future that shiningly stands tall with the best of King.

Cold Case
by
Stephen White
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
Over ten years have passed since two Steamboat Springs High School juniors, Tami Franklin and Mariko Hamamoto, vanished just before Thanksgiving in Colorado. Their corpses were found a year later. The case was never solved. Now, the Locard network of criminologists wants to re-look at the COLD CASE. They ask psychological profiler Dr. Alan Gregory and his spouse Assistant District Attorney Lauren Crowder to help them. The Locard group knows they need local talent to counterbalance the impact of a popular, high visibility celebrity, Congressman Dr. Raymond Welle, who is directly involved in the case. He provided psychological services to Mariko. Additionally, the sister of Lauren's first husband was once married to Raymond before she was brutally murdered by one of his patients. Alan begins to develop a profile on the two victims, their family members, and anyone else tied to the original case. The mounting evidence points towards Raymond as the prime suspect in three murders, but doesn't prove it beyond a shadow of doubt. Alan and Lauren are entertaining lead protagonists because they are atypical of the perfect hunk/hunkette who solve crimes. Instead, Alan seems more like a college professor and the pregnant Lauren suffers from multiple sclerosis. Though the descriptions of the Rockies are breathtaking, it actually slows down a brilliant murder mystery. The Locard connection is especially enticing and hopefully, Stephen White will provide tales from their files in future novels. In his eighth appearance, Alan Gregory retains his freshness in a wonderful novel that will elate series and sub-genre fans.

Dirty Money
by
Steve Womack
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
When his former girl friend called to ask him to see her as she enters her ninth month of the pregnancy, Nashville private investigator Harry Denton starts driving west. Besides loyalty to Dr. Marsha Helms who he shared a relationship with for years, Harry wants to be there for the birth of his child. He also wonders if his relationship with Marsha can be salvaged. However, the drive to Reno in his ,68 Mustang turns nearly deadly when his vehicle dies on the loneliest road in a desert stretch of Nevada. Ultimately two guys, "Greasy Blond and Wolf" stop, but they rob a worn out Harry. Eureka, Nevada law enforcement official Dell Kanon rescues Harry. At the house of Marsha's Aunt Marty, Harry meets Jacques Barrone and Jake Shalinsky. Jacques manages the notorious Mustang Ranch cathouse for the federal government while Jake works for him. Jacques believes the ranch plays a major role in money laundering. He hires Harry to work undercover as a maintenance man at the ranch. All Harry has to do is count cars, but a "cat killer" changes the rules of the game. A Harry Denton tale is always an entertaining novel that leaves the audience with chaotic feelings as the reader savors the novel while salivating for more. The most recent Denton book, DIRTY MONEY, is a fabulous story that never eases off the accelerator until the last page. Harry retains that likable combination of landing in pathetic situations, but always on his feet. He is a great character and placing him in Nevada adds a fresh angle to the plot. Steven Womack makes reading about the adventures of a male professional sleuth simply a lot of fun.

Dead Certain
by
Gini Hartzmark
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
Kate Millholland is 100 percent pure blueblood, but shuns the society work of her aristocratic mother for the pleasure of toiling at a prestigious law firm. She shares an apartment with her best friend, Prescott Memorial trauma specialist Claudia Stein, in a middle class neighborhood in Hyde Park. Kate's family founded Prescott and along with wealthy individuals provides endowments that allow the hospital to remain a great place for teaching and for coverage for people without insurance. The Millholland role in the hospital will change now that Prescott's Board of Directors accepted a deal to be bought out by Health Care Corporation, a company that prefers a large profit at the cost of medical care. Kate's mother is irate and legally challenges the deal. At the same time, a series of mysterious patient deaths occurs. Kate begins to investigate, but even she does not yet know the level of ruthlessness several individuals will go to attain what they want. Gini Hartzmark writes legal thrillers that are as good as any of the works found in bookstores today. Her latest tale, DEAD CERTAIN, rivals the best of Rosenberg and McGuire. The story line continually surprises the reader with twists that are unexpected but logically developed so the plot retains a sense of reality to it. The mystery is entertaining and after seven books, Kate Millholland is a friend, who the audience knows well. She still manages to remain fresh and keep us off balance and alert with her unusual approach to a problem. One thing is DEAD CERTAIN: this novel is a great way to open the new year.

Nothing But The Truth
by
John Lescroart
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
Defense attorney Dismas Hardy receives a call from the school telling him that his wife failed to pick up their children as planned. A bit concerned, he gets the kids and takes them home, but there is no sign of his spouse Frannie. After a few more hours pass, Dismas becomes worried until he finally learns that Frannie is residing in jail on two counts of contempt. Apparently, her good friend Ron Beaumont is afraid to become involved in the legal system although someone murdered his wife Bree and the police have no viable suspects. Frannie knows Ron's secrets, but refuses to answer questions involving them. When she acts nasty towards the judge, she becomes a prisoner. Dismas wonders if his beloved spouse has been romantically involved with another man, especially when she pleads with him to find out who killed Bree. However, deciding to trust his wife, Dismas begins to investigate what happened. He quickly learns that Bree had many political enemies because of her hard stand on environmental issues. As Dismas digs deeper, he realizes that someone will kill again to keep a certain plan on schedule. New York Times bestselling author John Lescroart has written another fabulous police and legal thriller. The male protagonist appears more vulnerable than usual, which makes him more likeable than in previous appearances. In NOTHING, BUT THE TRUTH, Dismas, soul is stripped to the bone marrow, but he still will do what it takes to keep his family safe. The who-done-it is one of the better ones in quite awhile, as Mr. Lescroart knows how to create a plot that will give immense pleasure to fans of police and legal thrillers.

Outfoxed
by
Rita Mae Brown
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
There are a few places left in Virginia where time seems to have stopped and the mindset remains the same as that of a hundred-plus years ago. The Jefferson Hunt Club and the immediate vicinity surrounding the facility are the epitome of the antebellum lifestyle enriched by twenty-first century technology. This small corner of the globe contains individuals steeped in a special heritage with genteel manners and seething passions especially for the Hunt led by popular Jane "Sister" Arnold. Sister is the master of the Hunt and has been for more years than many participants have lived. She currently inspects the horses, dogs, and foxes that will participate in the next Hunt. The animals are as intelligent as the humans and communicate amongst themselves. Sister has begun to feel her age and believes it is time to select a joint master to continue the tradition after she dies. However, during the Hunt, one of the leading contenders is murdered. This leaves everyone to wonder how far someone will go to eliminate the competition. Anyone who loves Sneaky Pie and Rita Mae Brown's Mrs. Murphy series will want to read OUTFOXED. The story line centers on the tightly closed American foxhunt scenario that is a part of our American heritage. The lead protagonist is a wise person who the audience will enjoy for her compassion for all that is alive and her leadership abilities. However, this novel belongs to the animals that make readers believe they can talk and think in a logical humanistic manner that Dr. Doolittle and Murphy would envy.

First Born
by
Richard Sears
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
In 1991 Mexico City, a woman encounters a UFO. Just after midnight on January 1, 2000 in Colorado Springs, that same woman gives birth to a boy. The infant John Reed is a new breed of humanity. He possesses an adult-like ability to communicate. He has the talent to heal life-threatening diseases. Finally, the baby contains the skill to see deep into the soul of people. The clandestine but powerful espionage organization Neo Tech wants John because they internationally control anyone with ESP abilities. They send their best operative Casey Armstrong to capture the child and learn more about his alien origin. However, Casey's psychic link to John opens up her mind to his goodness of purpose. Casey's employers realize they have lost her to John and thus set her up to take the fall in the murder of a priest. Casey turns to police officer Mike Caruso for help, but he needs John to save his life from a fatal disease. However, what is John? Is he humanity's savior or is he the beginning of the end as the first Homo superior-alien infant? FIRST BORN is an exciting, fast-paced tale that centers on a half human infant battling with a CIA-like group. The concept of John being a superior being due to the alien abduction of his mother falls short because the tale centers on the attempts on his life rather than on him. Still, those who relish action, action, and more action will enjoy this novel. The rest of us will philosophically ponder what all these aliens see in us and wonder why ET cannot visit a blood bank and clone the next generation?

Kingdom Come
by
Jim Hougan
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
CIA operative Jack Dunphy works in London laundering money for individuals who cannot afford to use the legal methods to move money. He does other assignments for the agency. Currently, he is wire tapping the phone of Professor Leo Schindolof, an expert in Jungian philosophy. When the professor is mutilated and the tap discovered, Jack is ordered home. Upon arrival, he is debriefed and assigned a tedious desk job. Jack believes his unofficial demotion is designed to force him into resigning. He has no idea why his superiors want him to leave the agency except perhaps the link to the deceased professor. He begins some discreet checking, but his activities are noticed. Soon, attempts are made on Jackâs life. As he gets closer to uncovering the truth about an internationally powerful cartel, his chances of survival geometrically drop by the hour. Conspiracy buffs will name the publishing date of KINGDOM COME as a national holiday. Jim Hougan answers the questions about the paranormal and extraterrestrial forces at work in today's world. The global conspiracy has religious undertones, headed by a wealthy organization that hides in plain sight. Readers will cheer on the likable lead protagonist who is an every person fighting a Quixote-like quest that has no boundaries. Though the tale is filled with many surprises, Mr. Hougan never loses sight of his main theme: the truth is right here not out there.

As a young man who analyses everything, whether he wants to or not, he causes himself many worries. A fall out with his father, causes him to make a terrifying journey to London by himself. Run
by
Ann Patchett
KAbbey
, December 30, 2007
Patchett has crafted another beautifully written narrative. "Run" follows the Doyle family: father Bernard, biological son Sullivan, and adopted sons Tip and Teddy. A sudden calamity brings strangers into their lives and over the course of the next twenty-four hours, their perspectives and lives are changed forever. Patchett has mastered the art of writing in a way that completely absorbs her readers. It flows so smoothly between different character's inner dialogues and past reflections. The book is filled with doubt, loss, and tragedy, but also delivers hope. I felt a connection with each character and a devotion to their lives. As good as Bel Canto, "Run" leaves me in anticipation of Patchett's next novel!! I would also recommend reading Tino Georgiou's bestselling novel--The Fates--if you missed it!

, December 30, 2007
However, unknown relatives are coming out of the woodwork from even unheard of paranormal places demanding an invitation to the wedding of the year. As the numbers grow, even imps want to be there though one must be cautious in allowing that species anywhere near a gala unless food fights are on the agenda. As their wedding plans expand to the point they consider elopement, the hostilities between the green and the red dragons ignites into what looks like a heated war. Finally Fiat the blue dragon demands Drake back off as he has a prior claim on Aisling. Overwhelmed by it all, Aisling concludes she either remains single or she abducts Drake so that he can become her beloved spouse. The fourth Aisling Grey romantic fantasy is a wonderfully amusing relationship drama with some YOU SLAY ME escapades. Fans of the series will enjoy the zany goings-on as the lead couple prepares for a wedding celebration that has completely gotten out of control especially on the supernatural plane. HOLY SMOKES, this is a laugh out loud tale that readers will appreciate while wondering elopement but to where, breaking up but they light each other's fire or I do while dragons war and Fiat heatedly objects!!! I would also recommend, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's bestseller--The Fates--go and read it!
