I learned a lot about Chinese food and culture from this book. The story was very interesting. I think this author writes very well. I felt as if I experienced a bit of China by reading this book.

The Story of Edgar Sawtelle

Out of all the many books I read last year, this is the one that popped to the top of the list when I saw the Puddly Awards contest. It's like a Shakespeare tragedy. You see the world that the author has created, and you love the characters so much. The dogs are fabulous with personalities that come through to you. It's a sad ending, but that's how life is sometimes. I highly recommend this book.

This is a very good book. It describes a way of life that makes me so grateful to be born as an American woman in the 20th century. The story of these two friends and the lives they lead is beyond my comprehension beginning with the excrutiating description of the foot binding process to surviving the loss of children and on and on. The deep friendship is inspiring and made me very thankful for my friend who is like an old same to me. I highly recommend this book.

Outlander

Diana Gabaldon

This is my favorite book of the decade because it is the first of Diana Gabaldon's series of Claire's story of fascinating adventures through time. I have read every one of the series so far and I just can't wait for another book to be published. My sister and my daughter read these books also and we all love them. If you want to be absorbed in a book, pick this one and get started on a great tale. And then continue with the next one!
