Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I actually had to get rid of this book because it was giving me nightmares...it really was that terrifying. A fascinating and horrific tale of not just a seance gone horribly wrong, but rather, a more insidious plot that is made more terrifying by the believable use of well known literary and political figures of Victorian England. Just don't read this on Halloween night, or any night you find yourself alone in the house.

Ahryeh Kaplan translates the eloquence and the poetry of this mystical book very well, and his interpretations are amazing. A must-read for the more advanced Kabbalah student.

The Four Witnesses: The Rebel, the Rabbi, the Chronicler, and the Mystic

This book was an amazing exploration of the Four Gospels. The author used a lot of the older Greek translations when discussing different passages of each of the four gospels, which made for a fascinating reading. For anyone who is studying the four gospels, this book does what no other NT study guide has ever done. It takes each gospel separately, and on its own merits, offering a fascinating interpretation of each place and time in which the four gospels were written.

I purchased this book for an English class in college, and it has become my official bible. The language is simple, crisp, concise, and a lot of fun to read--all contained in a very portable paperback format. Perfect for the avid reader/writer on the go. I would definitely recommend this for English classes at high school level and beyond.
