Five Book Friday: In Memoriam
(0 comment)
Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. I highly recommend digging into the recommendations — we would never lead you astray — but today...

Merry Christmas From 150 Christmas Cards You Wish Youd Received
by

I requested that my library buy this book, then I waited anxiously for it to arrive, and now I'm extremely disappointed. I expected original, imaginative, or at least humorous cards. I was hoping for ideas for our Christmas cards. All but a handful (maybe 6) of the cards in this book were corny, poorly done, and boring. I suppose that if you knew the people pictured it would hold more meaning.. but for a book like this, it was a huge let down. I'm really confused as to how this book was selected for publication. I think a trip to any thrift store or a search on flickr would yield more inspiration than this book does.

Savage Garden Cultivating Carnivorous Plants
by

Often referred to as the "Carnivorous Plant Bible", this is the most easy to read comprehensive growing guide for Carnivorous Plants. This book is sure to be a hit with experienced growers and newbies alike. It covers all the most popular species in depth and touches on the rarer ones as well. It includes background information on each plant along with detailed advice on cultivation. I bought my copy when the book was first published and I couldn't imagine my life without it!
