Last Argument Of Kings First Law 03

Yes...Mr. Abercormbie has colorful and believable characters and a rich world to stage the adventures he has created, but what is remarkable is that he has taken the type of characters often seen in fantasy fiction and twisted them so in the end nothing is quite what you thought...no one is quite what you expected and the finale is beyond anything you were thinking would happen in a fantasy fiction series. This was a highly enjoyable read for me!

The Yiddish Policemen's Union
by
Michael Chabon

I love Kavalier and Clay...and was familiar with Chabon from a comicbook lovers perspective. When I heard about a noir novel set in an alternative universe had been written by him I had to read it and loved every page of it. The hero is an everyman with the type of problems an everyman has...but a hero he is in this weird alaskan yiddish who dunnit. The setting might have happened...the Alaskan yiddish is inventive, and the dark humor is endearing.
