& After the Fire

Captivating multi-layered novel centered around the discovery of a musical manuscript by Johann Sebastian Bach. Alternating between 19th century Germany and present-day New York, the story winds through complexities of art and anti-Semitism, feminism, and musical sxholarship, while unfolding a love story so unlikely it can only be true. The characters are compelling. The truth is, I couldn't put it down.

Night Dogs

Beautiful writing about ugliness. This gritty novel about a Vietnam vet working as a policeman in Portland, Oregon in 1975 is captivating. Hanson shows us the brutal underside of the city and the struggle of a cop who has seen much of life's violence and has suffered much of life's injustice. What stands out Anderson's electrifying and economical prose, and the honesty of Hanson's inner and outer struggles. Highly recommended.

Sweet Life in Paris Delicious Adventures in the Worlds Most Glorious & Perplexing City

A trusted guide to many things French--from pate to chocolate mousse. David Lebovitz writes wonderful stories that get the juices flowing and make you homesick for Paris, even if you've never been there. His recipes are easy to follow, user-friendly, and bound to succeed. Emphasis is on desserts, but there are appetizers, salads, and main dishes as well. Delicious book!

Waiting for Sunrise

A very satisfying blend of psychology and plot, Waiting for Sunrise is an absorbing read, taking the reader to Vienna and London in the early 1900s. As the protagonist makes his way through his life, the reader takes a parallel journey through the novel. At the end, you feel you have arrived!
