A fascinating and horrifying "expose" of Russian orphanages, circa mid 1990's. Vanya/John survived most of his first decade in a Russian baby house- a place where babies and young children were labeled as imbeciles and deemed uneducable. John is an incredibly resilient young man, and Alan Philps tells his story eloquently.

Craig Thompson is an incredible writer and artist. I was completely awed by Habibi and I honestly don't have the words to describe how simply amazing this book is!
