Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. 365 Thank Yous The Year a Simple Act of Daily Gratitude Changed My Life
by
John Kralik

John Kralik had a year for which he felt he had little to be thankful. He had lots of bills, lived in an apartment he hated and was in the middle of his second divorce. He was reminded by a thank you note from his ex-girlfriend of a warm memory from his childhood; his grandfather's practice of rewarding every thank you note he received from his grandchildren with a silver dollar. So he resolved to write 365 thank you notes during the next year to everyone from colleagues for their hard work to the barista at Starbucks for remembering his name. I like Mr. Kralik's idea of intentional gratitude because of its simplicity. Writing a thank you note is something even a child can do, and reminds both the recipient and writer of the recognition of a kindness shown. For the author, it also was an exercise in learning how many things he had for which he was thankful. It was an easy read. I recommend it and am attempting to write more thank you notes myself this year!

Amazing book. I found it enlightening, yet a very human and gripping look at what happens when one takes unconventional opinions and actions regarding the status quo.
