Hands Of A Stranger
by
Robert Daley
Linda Wilkins
, March 02, 2009
Robert Daley's Hands of a Stranger is spellbinding. It takes you behind the scenes into the professional & private life of Joe Hearn, a newly promoted NY police inspector. Joe's private and professional worlds are turned upside down when his wife, Mary, is raped. Not knowing how to comfort his beloved wife nor how to deal with his own reactions to Mary's rape, he puts his career at risk in his obsessive need to find the rapist and bring him to justice. As his career and marriage begin to fall apart, he turns to the beautiful and brilliant District Attorney, Judith Adler, for comfort. Even she doesn't realize the torment that Joe is experiencing as he walks the fine line between upholding the law which means so much to him and avenging the crime that is tearing his family apart. Joe is indeed a rare literary character: warm, honest, tough, & vulnerable. I saw the movie years ago. Armand Assante, while a fine actor, in my opinion did not capture the decency and depth of Joe's character. Would love to see the movie be re-made, with either Daniel Craig or Goran Visnjic as Joe Hearn.

Thunderball James Bond
by
Ian Fleming

, January 19, 2009
(I am reviewer formerly known as iamflemingfan.) Thunderball- Prior to being sent on his mission to track down 2 stolen atom bombs, Bond is nearly killed at a health spa. Little does Bond realize that the revenge he exacts for this is only the beginning of the assignment that will threaten to destroy him. Ernst Blofeld & SPECTRE are back & testing the limits of Bond's endurance. With great lines such as,"Bond staggered over to the bed & knelt beside it.. The small head on the pillow turned towards him. A hand came out & grasped his hair, pulling his head closer to her. Her voice said huskily, 'You are to stay here. Do you understand?' When he didn't answer, she feebly shook his head to & fro. She felt Bond's body slipping to the floor. He was asleep. She let go of his hair."

Devil May Care James Bond Ian Fleming
by
Sebastian Faulks
Linda Wilkins
, January 19, 2009
Devil May Care is a great start for Sebastian Faulks as the newest author of authorized James Bond novels. This book begins with Bond on a 3 month sabbatical recovering from what he calls "the two B's"= brainwashing & bereavement". His sabbatical is cut short with the understanding that he will still be required to be followed-up for psychological fitness by medical staff. His newest assignment is to shadow the sadistic & power-crazed Dr. Julius Gorner, a pharmaceutical giant. The beautiful Scarlett Papava has her own personal reasons for pursuing Dr. Gorner & hassels Bond into allowing her to come along on the pursuit. In addition to the evil Dr. Gorner is Chagrin whose use for chopsticks is quite perverse. Bond's fight for his life & his sanity shows that his will to live is as strong as ever. I do hope that Mr. Faulks continues writing James Bond novels. There are 48 Bond novels by my count & as of this date I have read 34 of them. This includes Jim Hatfield's unauthorized The Killing Zone & Charlie Higson's authorized Young James Bond novels.
