How to Cook Everything: 2nd Edition Special Edition (no rebate offer; no sticker)
by
Mark Bittman
CA reader
, March 02, 2013
I have hardly touched another cookbook in the 14 months since I got this one. Bittman focuses on fresh ingredients. His recipes are easy to make, but still interesting. He offers lots of variations, so a recipe that doesn't seem quite to my family's taste at first glance probably has a variation that we'd like. One of my favorites is hot and sour soup that actually tastes like what you get in a restaurant, and a chicken adobo that gets raves from my pint-sized picky eater.

This book is full of level-headed parenting advice. It's from a Jewish perspective, but is a good read for anyone.

This book is eerily prescient and highly entertaining. It may stand as the 1984 of its generation.
