Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. It’s a list that, when put together, shows just how varied and interesting the book tastes of Powell’s booksellers are. This is a really nice story about a young woman who heads to America from India to search for her father, who she knew nothing about, until her grandfather died and she and her grandmother learned all that had been kept from them. Korobi's (means oleander) trip to NY and CA will change her view of the world and help her make a serious decision of the heart.

Out of My Mind

What an extraordinary book! The book is written from the perspective of an 11 year old girl who has never spoken. She has cerebral palsy which prevents her from communicating in the usual way, but she is extremely bright. With the backing of her parents, her caregiver, and an aide at school, she is encouraged to use her mind and continue to grow mentally. After being included in "inclusion" classes, she experiences the highs and lows that we all encounter in life. I could hardly put it down.

Great read about the various forms of cargo carriers. Doesn't sound that interesting, does it? But it is!

As a person who has "book lust" I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Vacations just aren't vacations without checking out bookstores in towns and cities that I visit. This book is a nice mix of historical information and the author's personal experiences in bookstores, big and small.
