Collector

What a wonderful book! It ranks right up there with Robert's Sweet Revenge and Honest Illusions. All three of these books are satisfyingly long reads. The Collector has a great plot with murders, spying, threats, fantastic amounts of money, jewels, betrayals, and, of course, romance. Oh! Also Earl Gray, the bravest, most heroic dog she's ever written about. Yah, Earl Gray! The characters are believable, sexy, and kind. The book was so good that, as soon as I had finished it, I turned to page one and began again!

Dreamland Adventures in the Strange Science of Sleep
by
David K Randall

What a fantastic book! The author originally researched the science of sleep to understand why he sleepwalked. His investigations did not help him stop sleepwalking, but he learned a whole heck of a lot about sleep. And the affects of no sleep. Like the gentleman who, after losing his job due to repeatedly napping at work, came to the sleep lab to find out whether he had apnea. Apnea manifests with the soft palate collapsing into the throat, shutting off oxygen. When the oxygen deprivation gets too high, the victim gives a mighty snort and breathes for several breaths. Then the whole thing begins again. Turns out that he DID have apnea. The lab techs set him up with a CPAP machine, which forces oxygen into one's lungs under pressure. The subject went to sleep in just about two minutes, immediately entered REM sleep, and stayed in REM sleep for the entire night. The poor man has probably not had a dream in months, if not years, and his brain was desperate. Very interesting book.

French For Cats

This book is absolutely hilarious! I have showed it to four people, and all want a copy. . . MY copy. If you read it, be prepared to purchase several copies for friends. Who knew cats could speak French, and so fluently? The artwork is almost better than the translations.

Plum Spooky

Ohmygod, this book was just hilarious! Yes, I know, I read the other "review" by the person who hated it and thought it was three stooge-ish. I laughed until I choked. From Lula sneezing and farting, to Martin Munch and his munchkins, it had everything: Ranger (soooo cool), Morelli (soooo hot), Carl (soooo funny), and Diesel (soooo other-worldly), it was a GREAT read! I would recommend this book to any Stephanie Plum reader. You'll love it! See if you don't.

Winter Of Frankie Machine
by
Don Winslow

Did I want to read about a mob hit man? No. Do I like violent books? No. Was Frankie Machine the most violent of mob hit men ever? Yes. Was he also the most sympathetic character ever? Yes. Retired, out of the mob, so comfortable getting up before the crack of dawn every day to surf, selling his bait, trying to avoid his ex-wife, and bursting with pride as his daughter enters medical school, he just wants to be left alone. Does the mob let him? No. Someone is trying to kill him. Many someones. And each and every killing in this wonderful book is wildly justified. I relished them all. This one was even better than Winslow's CALIFORNIA FIRE AND LIFE.
