by
Austin S. Camacho
ReadersEntertainment
, October 02, 2011
The Piranha, a newly developed stealth submarine, represents the latest in US weapons technology. When completed, it will give US forces control over the oceans of the world. But there is more to the project than meets the eye. At least, this is what Mark Roberts of the CIA believes, so he enlists the help of his friend, ex-mercenary Morgan Stark, who, together with retired jewel thief Felicity O'Brien, runs a personal security operation. Stark and O'Brien investigate the Piranha project and discover that its leader, Francisco Bastidas, is the not man he seems to be. In fact, he runs con-games for the sheer pleasure of it. Giving him control of a major weapons project may not be the best of ideas. The pair infiltrate the program's security team only to discover that this project cannot continue, because it poses a threat to the world's very security. With disaster looming, Stark and O'Brien must take the project and its heinous leader down, but first they have to defeat an army of terrorists and a crazed giant called Rodrigo Herrera, a man who is capable of killing a jaguar with his bare hands. Will Stark and O'Brien put an end to this project and circumvent a nuclear strike? Find out in The Piranha Assignment, the exciting new novel from Austin S. Camacho and the third book in the Stark and O'Brien series. Camacho specializes in writing thrillers and mysteries. His action-packed fiction is in many ways informed by his experiences as a US Army soldier. After all, Camacho started his writing career years ago while serving as a broadcast journalist for the Army. He appreciates enthralling fiction of any variety, and it shows in his own work. With The Piranha Assignment, the stakes are high and his characters are given greater dimension. For any lover of thriller novels, especially with some relationship to government operations and military weapons development, The Piranha Assignment by Austin S. Camacho will make a great addition to your collection.

Gathering the Indigo Maidens
by
Cecilia Velegui
ReadersEntertainment
, September 29, 2011
The life of Paloma Zubiondo, wealthy widow and art collector, is well-ordered and full of discipline. Her beach-front home in Laguna Beach, California serves as a fortress. Everything is in its right place. Paloma has spent years building her collection of rare books and fine art from the Spanish Colonial period. Nothing can disturb her world, or so she thought... ...When the telephone rings one day, the end result of the call is total confusion for Paloma. Is her beloved nanny from childhood really being held captive as a sex-slave? Are the preposterous claims of the mysterious caller actually true? Is one of her pieces of art, the Immaculate Conception by 17th century Quito artist Isabel Santiago really stolen? And is the caller the true heir to the painting? Her pursuit of clarification on these matters leads only to greater confusion and sets her on an adventurous course that takes her far from the ordered world she knows and into the seedy underground of thieves, miscreants, and sex-slave traffickers. With the help of her childhood friend Jen, Paloma begins to unearth a harsh reality buried deep within the past but strongly tied to the problems of the present. Who said fine art was boring? Follow Paloma through the trial of Gathering the Indigo Maidens, the new novel from Cecilia Velastegui. This author skillfully blends historically accurate tidbits (many of the historical characters described in the novel were real) with a great understanding of world cultures and symbolism inherent within artistic work. Velastegui's life-experience proves an excellent foundation upon which to build an intelligent and suspenseful story: she has traveled extensively in 50 countries and knows four different languages. She also has served on the board of directors for several cultural and educational institutions. This contribution to the world of books should not be missed. Gathering the Indigo Maidens is perfect for anyone who enjoys exciting and intelligent suspense charged with mystery and informed by a high degree of historical accuracy.

Sexiest Vampire Alive Love at Stake 11
by
Kerrelyn Sparks
ReadersEntertainment
, September 29, 2011
Gregori Holstein is young, charming, and full of sexual appeal. That is a dangerous combination when it comes to vampires. When a web-based video broadcast threatens the security of vamps everywhere, the best option for the Undead is turning to Gregori, VP of Marketing, for help. He has been given the task of seeking aid from the US government to prove the video is merely a hoax. But before that can happen, the president has a favor to ask. As it turns out, Abby Tucker, the First Daughter, is on a mission to save her dying mother. A dedicated scientist, Abby has come close to the cure and is missing only two essential ingredients. Unfortunately, she must cross the world and enter into the most dangerous territory known to mankind...and vampires. This is where Gregori fits into the scheme, since he is capable of acting as an escort for Abby and providing her with the sort of protection she requires in this part of the world. Of course, Gregori and Abby have nothing in common on the surface: he is suave and sensual, while she is (truth be told) a bit dull and scientific. But her blood is by no means cold yet. In fact, the greatest danger in Abby's life at this point is not the horror awaiting her on the other side of the planet, but the desire beginning to burn within her for the Sexiest Vampire Alive... ...The new novel from Kerrelyn Sparks is well-crafted, comical, and definitely sexy. Her characters are given great voice and there is a certain humor that pervades the entire piece, even when the story is heating up. Sparks is an award-winning USA Today best-selling author with a passion for the paranormal. Sexiest Vampire Alive is an exciting and satisfying book that is ideal for any avid readers of romance, especially in terms of the paranormal category. Kerrelyn Sparks already has a dedicated fan-base, and I am sure that she would love to add you to their ranks. Look for Sexiest Vampire Alive in bookstores everywhere and be drawn into a dangerously seductive world. For more information, check out www.kerrelynsparks.com.

We the Animals
by
Justin Torres
ReadersEntertainment
, August 30, 2011
We the Animals is a coming-of-age story like nothing I’ve ever read before. It is sometimes shocking, sometimes funny, heartwarming and maybe even a little scary because of how it affects you on such a personal level. Three boys, raising hell in Brooklyn, following in the footsteps of passionate parents, doing everything they can think of, making chaos, loving fiercely. It almost felt like I was a peeping-Tom into the window of someone’s very private family life. Sometimes I wondered what motivated them, then that was answered in the next breath as they held tight to each other. The book is not very long. You can easily read it in a day. Don’t think you can skim it though because it is too emotionally electrifying to be able to just skim over pages. Every page is important. Every word. You have to wonder how much of this is auto-biographical. Justin Torres seems charming and full of life and perhaps a little innocent. This book is for anyone who wants to be challenged to think about family ties and how our early years affect us.

Heart & the Fist The Education of a Humanitarian the Making of a Navy SEAL
by
Eric Greitens
ReadersEntertainment
, April 14, 2011
Eric Greitens could say a lot about his life. Twice honored for military duty by the president, this Rhodes and Truman scholar, a graduate from Oxford, turned his attention to serving his nation and the world's people after great academic success. Not yet 40 years of age, Greitens has been a US Navy SEAL for more than a decade, and his lengthy list of military accolades stands as proof of his persistence in the line of duty. He has been deployed four times to countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, and he was recognized and honored for his bravery throughout the duration of these missions. Now a commanding officer, Greitens has received numerous high awards and notoriety. You would expect for the average individual to be quite satisfied with such great successes, but for Greitens this is just the beginning. At the core of his spirit is an unending dedication to action inspired by compassion for people all over the world, and the extent of his impact as a humanitarian will outweigh even the achievements of his successful military career. Greitens, using the money he received for combat overseas, founded The Mission Continues, a non-profit organization that seeks to aid wounded and disabled veterans in becoming more active as leaders in their communities and the nation. This is how a hero's story sounds... ...The Heart and the Fist is a direct telling from Greitens of his life's experience"it is a story that needs to be told. Its straightforward language and inspirational nature are sure to appeal to the heart of any reader looking for powerful words and an honest account dealing with the potential of human achievement when compassion and courage are behind every action. Also, for any reader who loves biographical (or autobiographical) books about military and/or humanitarian efforts, this title comes highly recommended. Ceaseless dedication, a commitment to understanding, , and a will to pursue wisdom"these are the qualities of a man who is guided by his heart but who knows how to fight with his fist. And the story of his life is about to inspire you.

Tyler

C H Admirand
ReadersEntertainment
, March 13, 2011
Tyler by C.H Admirand is a sweet change of pace from your stereotypical, “girl falls down on her luck"takes “demeaning” job"gets rescued by heroic, knight in shining armor” story of modern romance. In this case, it’s homespun sweet cowboy Tyler Garahan, who in order to save the ranch that has been in his family for generations, reluctantly takes a job as a male stripper to earn some fast cash. Then in comes, Emily Langley, the club owner’s endearingly chocolate batter covered sister and suddenly the situation is not as unattractive as he first thought. She’s not exactly in the best place herself to play hero, but together they are able to find away to rescue each other and find the kind of love that lasts a lifetime. Tyler and Emily’s story is wonderfully written with loads of humor, spicy romance and good old fashion charm that makes it a pleasure to read and impossible to put down until the last page is turned.

Devalera Deception a Winston Churchill Thriller
by
Michael Mcmenamin, Patrick McMenamin
ReadersEntertainment
, September 08, 2010
There are only a few authors who can create readable, believable historical fiction, and there are even fewer who can create a page-turning thriller within that genre. The father and son writing team of Michael and Patrick McMenamin are definitely the exception. With The De Valera Deception, the first book in what looks to be an amazing series, the McMenamin’s have recreated the robust world of the late 1920’s just before the Depression. This is a world of gin, jazz, the Industrial Revolution, women’s suffrage and the beginning of some modern day world-wide conspiracies. Bourke Cockran is summoned by Winston Churchill to investigate how the Irish Republican Army is getting arms from the German government through channels in the United States. With the help of Mattie McGary, a photojournalist for Hearst and the god-daughter of Churchill, they embark on a non-stop thrill filled adventure from London to New York and places in between. A Germany left bitter after WWI seeks to rebuild its former glory by any means, including a clandestine partnership with the Soviet Union. The beginning of modern spy warfare, international terrorism, and the formation of new European alliances keep Cockran and Mattie barely ahead of the bullets and the law. Even though they are attracted to each other, Cockran is still grieving over the loss of his wife who was murdered in the Civil War that erupted in Ireland in 1922. The primary reason he took the job form Churchill is that he wants revenge for his wife at any cost. This thriller is peppered with Soviet assassins, IRA terrorists, government bureaucracy, legendary historical figures, and notorious gangsters that give the reader an intense and intriguing read. The DeValera Deception is an excellent novel, woven with rich historical detail that breaths vitality and life into the people of an often overlooked era.

Neverland
by
Douglas Clegg
ReadersEntertainment
, August 26, 2010
The Jackson family seems doomed to spend every summer vacation at a remote location off the coast of Georgia, a place called Gull Island. To the youngest members of the Jackson family, the site is dull and offers very little in the way of entertainment. And there always seems to be tension in the old and dismal house owned by their scrutinizing grandmother. The children are only attempting to find a safe haven when their cousin Sumter stumbles upon a strange, well-hidden shack, which they call Neverland. The fun at Neverland is innocent enough at first. But now, the kids of this family clan are beginning to act strangely: offering sacrifices to a creature of the shadows, insisting that parents are never allowed in their refuge, and writing on the shack's walls—in blood. The mystery surrounding Neverland begins to unfold as the reality behind the strange creature of shadows worshiped by the children starts to take shape. It is a reality that transforms Gull Island into a place of terror, and the children's games are becoming very destructive. What secrets are held by Neverland, the newest novel from Douglass Clegg? Clegg is the critically acclaimed author of Isis, an award-winning novel that has earned Clegg a positive reputation in the genre of suspense/horror fiction. This disturbing addition to his collection of written works deals with the idea of lost innocence in its most horrifying manifestations. Neverland is an excellent book for fans of Clegg's previous work, of course, and it should also be well-received by readers of both suspense and horror novels.

Chloe's life may not be normal, but she is doing all that she can in order to make it work. How will she ever find refuge from those who would so readily destroy her? The answers lie in The Reckoning, the latest and final installment of award-winning author Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers trilogy. Seduction Wears Sapphires
by
Renee Bernard
ReadersEntertainment
, August 25, 2010
In the second book of The Jaded Gentlemen Series, author Renee Bernard takes readers into the life and heart of Ashe Blackwell. His life, his soul was left scarred by his captivity in the dungeons of India. His attempts to deaden the memories have lead to a life of every conceivable vice. His grandfather, the family patriarch, has no idea of his past trauma. He is only aware of the hedonistic life his grandson leads. All he wants is for his grandson to become a mature gentleman and accept responsibility. He offers Ashe a wager, actually an ultimatum, to be a gentleman for one London season or see his inheritance disappear. Ashe has enough of his own wealth that the inheritance isn’t enough to make him accept the wager. When his grandfather informs him who will gain that inheritance if he doesn’t accept, Ashe takes on the wager without a second thought. After smugly accepting, he then learns he must will be chaperoned. Already outraged by this, he is then introduced to his chaperone, a seemingly quiet, rather plain American woman, Caroline Townsend. Not as quiet or plain as she first appears, Caroline is smart, worldly savvy, and has a few painful secrets in her own past. Undaunted by her obnoxious first encounter with Ashe, she is determined to uphold her contract with his grandfather. Being subjected to English aristocracy, the protocol of a London season and nuisances of English society, Caroline finds she must tread very carefully. She also has no choice but to succeed, as failure would end any hope for her future. The verbal bantering between the characters is indeed a highlight of this book. Caroline is a delight, particularly when being escorted into the inner sanctum of English society. Ashe is her equal and the two begin their attraction for each other while verbally “sword fighting”. Using an American character, freshly imported from the colonies sets a perfect stage for conversations and arguments not usually found in Victorian era romances. The characters are fun, witty, and give no quarter. Seduction Wears Sapphires offers the reader a great story, rich historical detail, and a charming love story.

Imams Daughter

Hannah Shah
ReadersEntertainment
, May 04, 2010
The Imam’s Daughter Hannah Shah “My father was the Imam; my father was the mosque.” The world Hannah was born into meant her father has absolute power over nearly everyone, especially his family. A sometimes dark and brutal tale, the book is overwhelmingly a tribute the resilience of one woman’s soul. Raped by her father from the age of five, Hannah Shah lived in a child’s pretend world to escape the horrors of her home. With imaginary Loneliness Birds from heaven coming to her rescue, she was able to survive beatings, rape, and days of being locked in a dark, silent cellar without food. Her mother and brothers turned a blind eye to the nightmare that became her life. With the help of a school teacher, Hannah escapes. Chased, threatened with murder, and moving to dozens of houses to escape her tyrannical father, Hannah blossoms into a caring, compassionate woman, choosing to laugh, to love and to forgive. An intense look at the inner workings of the Muslim faith how beliefs can become easily distorted and how courage comes in many forms. The Imam’s Daughter is a touching and poignant novel, and author Hannah Shah, a former Muslim, is a tribute to what being a Christian means.

Lisa Samson is about to experience a life-changing event. She and her teenage daughter embark on a mission trip to serve those who struggle in a devastated region in Africa known as Swaziland. But the reality that Samson and Ty, Samson's daughter, discover in this desolated place is unimaginable and more graphic than anything they have encountered during their comfortable lives in America. Samson details her journey in her latest work Love Mercy, which seeks to convey a sense of the enormity of problems felt in this region. It also gives the reader a clear sense of what compassion is possessed by those who choose to depart from a condition of contentedness in order to serve those who struggle to survive from one day to another. For these people, the trial is very real. Their story unfolds in Samson's latest work Love Mercy. Samson, who is no stranger to writing, deals especially with faith-based fiction. She has been well-received by the reading public, and several of her more than twenty five novels have earned her awards. Brain Thief

Alexander Jablokov returns to science fiction with Brain Thief, his first novel in the genre after several years. This imaginative mystery comes complete with a cast of eccentrics who in some form or fashion antagonize Bernal Haydon-Rumi, the man at the center of this strange journey and struggle for answers. When Bernal returns to his wealthy employer's home after a business excursion, simplicity unravels, and he is left with a puzzle to solve that involves his boss, a woman who spends idle time funding strange projects, and an AI device designed to explore other planets, as well as an activist, a local murderer, and a problem-riddled cryogenic specialist, among other memorable and equally complicated characters. In order to figure out what is amiss, he must stay on the trail of his employer and utilize the personal resources at his disposal: cleverness, persistence, and a strong desire to understand. What will he uncover in his search for answers, and is an executive assistant's life really supposed to be this strange? Jablokov's newest novel is compelling, bizarre and difficult to put down. It will be an ideal reading for science fiction enthusiasts and readers who enjoy creative stories that never seem to stop twisting and evolving. Brain Thief is highly recommended to readers of Jablokov's previous works as well.

Year Of Living Like Jesus
by
Edward Dobson
ReadersEntertainment
, December 17, 2009
When Ed Dobson, an evangelical pastor truly dedicated to the following of Christ's teachings, learned that he had ALS, a radical idea came to him. He decided to live for one year as Jesus would have lived, and what he learns is chronicled in his new book The Year of Living Like Jesus. Of course, adhering to the values of Christ's life involves eating only kosher foods, reading the Gospels with a certain degree of regularity, and observing the Sabbath, but Jesus had a very distinct approach to existence from many in our own time and his own, as Dobson discovers through his remarkable journey. It is Christ's approach to the treatment of those who suffer that was integrated into Dobson's own life and allowed him to receive many insights into what it is like to live just as Jesus would have lived. Those insights are communicated with sincerity, humility, and a touch of humor by Dobson throughout this surprising and genuine struggle to understand what it takes to embody the values and principles of Christ's teaching. The Year of Living Like Jesus comes highly recommended for those who wish to better understand their own faith and what ways we can incorporate Christ's teachings into our own lives to better serve him and one another throughout our life's journey.

While the Wind Blows
by
Diana Higbee Reginato
ReadersEntertainment
, October 23, 2009
Grief is a natural part of our lived experience. Of course, it is helpful to have a means of coping, especially with the loss of a loved one. Diana Higbee Reginato's While the Wind Blows is an excellent reading for anyone who is struggling with the passing of someone dear. This beautifully illustrated collection of prose and poetry details the process of grief, from the point of its introduction into one's life to its acceptance and eventual incorporation into our understanding of what it is to love and then lose. The sequence of the work takes the reader along a journey of healing and will prove helpful for anyone dealing with this harsh emotional climate. Reginato had the grieving reader in mind when she wrote the work. It seems that Reginato was inspired to create this piece in response to her own loss of someone dear. She must be commended for demonstrating to others through her well-written work that grief, though it floods the mind and body with feelings for some time, will not last forever.

The Boy with the Blue Cap Van Gogh in Arles
by
Beaupre, Norman
ReadersEntertainment
, October 23, 2009
The work of certain artists impress upon our minds. What qualities in an artistic piece make it special or appealing? There are times when we must turn to the characters who were responsible for the creation of these masterpieces in order to better understand the pieces themselves. One controversial artist whose work is liable to be better understood through glimpsing into his life experiences is Vincent Van Gogh, the painter whose vibrant, colorful paintings will leave an impression with any person to look upon them. And where do we turn to view a portrait of Van Gogh's life? The answer is Norman Beaupre's The Boy with the Blue Cap. Beaupre's The Boy with the Blue Cap is the vision of this brilliant artist's life and time painting in Arles as told through the eyes of the son of the region's Postmaster, who actually knew the subject of the piece. The work itself is fictional but littered with elements of the real, and the story proves enticing and suspenseful as the relationship between the Van Gogh and the Postmaster's son carries us through this phase of Van Gogh's life and work. Beaupre must be commended for giving readers the opportunity to better understand this controversial figure's complex creative work through an engaging and semi-historical account of Van Gogh's time in Arles.

In our world, we have a great deal of confusion stemming from virtually every aspect of life. Society entrances and titillates with many indulgences, gluttony persists, and we falter along an unclear path weather-beaten and shaded by false ideas. How do we ever make sense of this turmoil into which we are born? Author Ron Pieris sees the way to a better course, and, in his book Soul Progression, he tries to show us how to come onto that path and follow it. Pieris believes that in order to possess true faith, one must first have what he calls “works of faith.” Through his understanding of these conditions and activities—charity, hopefulness, love of fellow man—Pieris elaborates upon what is required in order to achieve a state where the evolution of the soul becomes possible. This book is ideal for anyone who wishes to change and grow as a person from the inside out. It delivers an understanding for which the world in its present circumstance is desperate. If you seek clarity and a means of recapturing the power of true faith, Peiris's Soul Progression is a must-read.

Though he seemed destined to become a master artisan, Rhennthyl's rare ability to visualize objects and cause them to materialize has altered his life's course completely. Rhenn is an imager, one of the select few on Terahnar, and this is his story. After recovering from injuries inflicted during his foiling of a plot masterminded by the Ferran envoy, Rhenn is appointed as the imager liaison to the Civic Patrol of L'Excelsis, but this "promotion" is far from glorious, and, owing to the displeasure of the Commander of the Civic Patrol at having a liaison from the Collegium, it leaves him on patrol in the streets of the city's worst district. What is worse is that Rhenn has made powerful enemies since realizing his ability as an imager, and now one of the High Holders intends to destroy Rhenn and his entire family. His only hope is in alliances with the family of the woman whom he cherishes. Their success as merchants and underworld connections may be the only thing that can help Rhenn win against those who would destroy him and all that he holds dear, but will this be enough, and can Rhenn find a way of compromising the intentions of his foes without making more enemies? What will it take to protect the ones he loves? Find out in the next installment of the Imager Portfolio, Imager's Challenge. L. E. Modesitt, Jr. is an accomplished author of more than forty science fiction novels. Imager's Challenge is the second book in what he has dubbed the Imager Portfolio. This engaging and developed fantasy series is set in L'Excelsis, the capital city of the most powerful nation on Terahnar, a world of Modesitt's ingenious contrivance where magic rules in secret. Modesitt has been treating readers to the brilliance of his magical realms in various science fiction series since the early 1970s. The Imager series bears testament to his ability as a writer to captivate readers with imaginative and exciting tales that unfold on faraway worlds, and, in his writing, Modesitt achieves a level of genuine character development that is not typical of other works in the science fiction genre. According to the Library Journal, "the author's skill in portraying the humanity of characters who possess the power to destroy others with a thought adds a level of verisimilitude and immediacy rarely found in grand-scale fantasy." If you are a reader of science fiction and fantasy, then the likelihood that you are no stranger to the work of Modesitt seems great. Loyal fans of Modesitt will greatly enjoy this newest novel in his latest fantasy series, but if you are an avid science fiction reader and yet your familiarity with Modesitt's work is nonexistant, it is likely that you will still quickly learn to appreciate the potency of his science fiction. The Imagers Portfolio and its latest installment, Imager's Challenge, comes highly recommended for fantasy and science fiction readers everywhere.

Dragon Moon is an ideal selection for faithful readers of her "Moon Series," but general readers of fantasy romance and the paranormal are liable to appreciate this exciting story of passion and hidden intentions. As a society, we are indebted to those honorable individuals who have served in any of the five branches of the military. Their dedication to our defense and supreme level of patriotism enable the American people to enjoy the luxury of numerous liberties without which so many others in our world must endure. In the spirit of providing support for those who have served, the anthology Operation L.O.V.E. has been written. Five patriotic authors, Anne Elizabeth, Tara Nina, DC DeVane, Lindsay Downs, and C.H. Admirand, have all contributed stories to this collection, and each story relates to one of the five primary branches of the military's Special Operations forces. However, these five stories are not merely commemorative pieces written with the intention of honoring the brave men and women who have served. In fact, they are romantic pieces that detail the trials and experiences of various characters in pursuit of love. Praise for American forces is brought to a new level with this special romance anthology, where action and adventure is excellently blended with desire and intrigue. According to the authors of this anthology, "the purpose of this short story collection is to support the troops, increase education about the military and its special branches, and to promote romance." And every story contributes in its own way to that commendable aim. This collection of short, praise-worthy works is ideal for anyone who enjoys romance with a distinct, memorable twist and a touch of action, as well as any reader whose family and friends have been or are currently involved with military service.

Romance is the main theme in this book, but the suspense puts some action on the page. The characters have a great chemistry and are well thought out. This is a must read for anyone who loves a true romance novel. Rainie marries the man of her dreams just to discover he is really a nightmare. And a murderer. She fakes her death and changes her looks to escape him. Her new boss suspects something is up with her, but he is careful and not pushy. His strength and support help Rainie to overcome her fears and a romance begins. But, her ex husband discovers she is still alive and comes for her! It was snowing outside when I read this. I was all cuddled up in a fluffy throw blanket near the fireplace. It was so easy to tune out the business of my life and take a little time for myself. I highly recommend the book...and the experience!
