When You Reach Me

I read a lot of YA literature and this book really made an impression on me. Not only does it mention (and pay homage to "A wrinkle in time," but the story continues to intrigue all the way to the end. I later found out that When you reach me is a Newberry award winning book about a young lady named Miranda, who loses her best friend and then starts finding notes with no signature. She tries to figure out the mystery of the messages while avoiding a crazy man on her street. A wonderful book to share.

Beautiful Yetta

This is my new favorite children's book, in fact I read it to three boys ages 4,6 and 8 last night and they really enjoyed it -- particularly the Yiddish-speaking chicken and Spanish-speaking Parrots. These kids even knew that Brooklyn is in New York. I originally heard the book read on Weekend Edition Saturday by host Scott Simon and author Daniel Pinkwater. They had so much fun reading the book, that I knew I had to get it and share it with my friends (particularly those who have children). I've already purchased five copies for holiday gifts and I may have to buy more. I'm only sorry that my Yiddish-speaking Grandparents aren't still with us, as they would have loved this book, too.
