Every year, the booksellers at Powell’s submit their Top Fives: their five favorite books that were released in 2023. Beautiful Boy A Fathers Journey Through His Sons Addiction

This book is a very intense read. You really feel it when the writer fights with when to be the parent who never stops trying to help his son and when he feels like its pointless to continue trying to break his son's addiction. My heart goes out to the Sheff family and it is a blessing that this book is getting so much attention because it may help prevent meth abuse in the future. This book is awesome.

7 Tools to Beat Addiction: A New Path to Recovery from Addictions of Any Kind: Smoking, Alcohol, Food, Drugs, Gambling, Sex, Love
by
Stanton Peele

This is a great book! I've been researching addiction, mostly meth, for the last few months and running across book was the best thing that could have happened to me. It challanges the idea of adiction being a desease. Peele believes its purely a choice, and when you're ready, you make the choice to quit. He points out some amazing statistics of smokers and drinkers who are able to quit on their own, using motivation from their values and believes rather than simply going to a support group that preaches to avoid the drug. It's very interesting...especially if your going to college for psychology/neurology like I am!
