I am always impressed by authors who can cover decades of a person's life in one novel, and do it well. I Moloka'i, Brennert does just that. And, in doing so shows the reader a little-known part of Hawaiian-U.S. history. Or, at least a part that I knew little about... and I was inspired to do further reading on the topic. The novel's protagonist, Rachel Kalama, is amazing, and completely believable.

I zipped through this book and enjoyed every page. It was great seeing all those Greek myths and characters I learned about in middle school reworked and updated in this well-plotted adventure. I can't wait to read the next in the series!

This is a fabulous collection of original fables with great messages/morals. My middle school students love it, and every adult I've recommended it to has found a favorite story inside. I'm a fan of "The Hippopotamus Dances."
